Ta dah!

My super fun @spotlightstores Mr Sparkle fabric set is complete!

I used @cashmerette Calder Shorts and @helens__closet Ashton Top and they make such a fun pair! I’ve made both these patterns OODLES of times so followed my regular modifications.

This would make a super cute and comfy sleep set but I have been wearing these out as separates and as a set. I figure it has to be pretty cute because I got a cheeky grin and a thumbs up from a fabulous older person when I last wore the set 🥹

Viva la Me Sparkle!

My #SewJapaneseInJanuary project is complete! 💅🏼

This is feeling like a huge victory because I’m settling back into the routine of work and have been sewing this in bits and pieces. Viva la work/life balance!

I have used “Clothes for chubby people” by Yoshiko Tsukiori which is a Japanese pattern book for folks in sizes 2XL to 7XL. There are so many cute designs in there but this pinafore went to the top of my summer wardrobe list pretty quickly.

I grabbed some Deep Teal linen from @wearethefabricstore in their latest sale and it is a delight to work with.

This was my first time using a Japanese sewing book and it took a little bit of puzzling out with what pieces to trace, extend and modify but nothing onerous. The instructions are illustrated but after a decade of sewing I just freestyled. It’s a simple pattern so was pretty self explanatory.

Long story short: more plus size Japanese pattern books, please!

I’ll try and grab some in the next few days!

I’m going to make a cute pinafore from “Clothes for Chubby People” by Yoshiko Tsukiori.

I’m after a cute layering piece with a white tee so grabbed some deep teal linen from @wearethefabricstore in their sale.

This is my first time using a Japanese sewing book so wish me luck!

It’s finished!

The ends are woven in and it’s time to block my @weareknitters Fortezza Sweater! I used the WAK yarn in Flamingo for this project.

Given how chunky the yarn is it is a super quick make—the front and back are rectangles as is the sleeves—though they also include a simple cable design. This would be a great intro to cables as the yarn is big enough to see any issues quickly and rip back if needed.

This is my first seamed garment and I have to say I much prefer knitting in the round. It did make the weight of the project less as you complete each component separately but I’m team seamless 🥳

Now it’s time block and have this bide it’s time for a few months when the weather changes. Yay!

Slowly chipping away at long standing works in pro

Slowly chipping away at long standing works in progress.

First up is seaming up and weaving in the ends on my @weareknitters Fortezza Sweater (B: 45”) in Flamingo.

I knit up all the pieces in a week last year and have been procrastinating on sewing the pieces together because each time I try I’m unhappy with the results.

In the spirit of done is much better than perfect, I did my best seaming this up and I’ll get onto weaving in the ends and blocking.

So excited to have this project almost finished!!

Welcome to extreme dopamine dressing—Canberra style!

This is my ridiculously cheerful @simplicitymccallsaustralia M7969 (B:48” W:42” H:50”) dress sewn up with the straight sleeves and with a cheeky waist tie attached.

I used the silkiest of rayons from @darncheapfabrics and I have to say I think this is my year of rayon because I am covered. The drape and swish of this fabric is off the charts amazing.

Due to the fact I got the last of the bolt, I didn’t have enough to do the iconic balloon sleeves but I have top say I am really vining with the straight sleeves. We’ve had a few hot days of late and these sleeves has meant the ole arms have been breezy! I also patched together a bunch of straps to create long waist ties which when wrapped around gives me total Meg from the Hercules cartoon vibes and I am not mad about it. I’ve got a few photos without the ties for a point of reference but I much prefer them with.

TL;DR this dress is a joyous riot of colour and softness and with waist ties you will feel like a cartoon badass.
